Magpies sweat on Martins

Newcastle will make a late decision on the fitness of Obafemi Martins ahead of their trip to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham on Sunday. The 24-year-old angered manager Alan Shearer last week after he pulled out of the squad to face Stoke just hours before kick-off with a groin problem. The Nigerian international has not trained all week because of the injury but his boss is still optimistic the striker can return to boost the Magpies frontline. Newcastle are in desperate need of three points against Spurs with the club two points from safety and no win in their last seven games. "Oba has not trained this week," Shearer confirmed to nufcTV. "But we haven't ruled him out and we'll continue to monitor his fitness before making a late decision." Shearer also dismissed claims that he had fallen out with the former Inter Milan ace over the incident prior to the 1-1 draw at Stoke last Saturday. "The whole thing was forgotten about afterwards," he added. "Oba never broke any rules or curfew and all I was disappointed with was the timing of things. "But I've spoken to him and everything is fine and we're hoping he'll be fit as soon as possible."
