Magpies fight back to snatch draw

31 July 2010 17:30
Newcastle came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven at St James` Park. The Dutch side took the lead in the 10th minute. Ola Toivanen was fouled by James Perch just outside the box and he made the Magpies pay by curling home the resulting free-kick. PSV increased their lead five minutes before the break when Balazs Dzsudzsak was allowed time and space to unleash a shot from 25 yards which flew past goalkeeper Steve Harper. The Magpies pulled a goal back in the 51st minute when goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson could only parry Perch`s cross into the path of Ryan Taylor, who made no mistake from close range. Taylor was then the architect as Newcastle levelled with 17 minutes left, his free-kick being met with a glancing header from Leon Best. There was a minute`s applause before the game to mark the first anniversary since the death of Sir Bobby Robson, who managed both clubs.
