Magpies eye summer targets

Alan Shearer has confirmed that Newcastle are already on the look-out for new players to bring in during the summer despite not knowing which division they will be in. The Magpies currently sit in the relegation places, four points from safety and with only five games to save themselves. But the interim manager insists that, despite the fragile state of affairs at St James' Park work, is going on behind the scenes to make sure the playing staff is strengthened at the end of the season. Newcastle also risk buying new players despite not knowing who will be in charge next term with Shearer refusing to fully commit himself permanently to the post while question marks remain over Joe Kinnear's future plans. "That's all still happening," Shearer confirmed even though executive director (football) Dennis Wise, whose job it was to recruit new players, has left the club. "There have been one or two tweaks to the system, but it all has to happen for next season. "That's for the benefit of the football club next season."
