Magpies call for stability

Newcastle duo Kevin Nolan and Steven Taylor have called for an end to the uncertainty surrounding the club. The Magpies are currently without a full-time manager, despite pre-season training having now resumed, while owner Mike Ashley is still looking to find a buyer for the St James' Park outfit. Having slipped out of the Premier League last season the North East giants could well do without the distractions as they look to bounce back into the top flight at the first time of asking. However, a number of senior players have gone public with their disappointment at the manner in which the club is being run at a pivotal time in their history. Keeper Steve Harper has admitted that no-one on Tyneside appears to know what is going on, believing the club is 'dying a slow and painful death'. Nolan and Taylor have now added their opinion to the argument, with the former revealing that something needs to be done sooner rather than later if the Magpies are to avoid slipping further into the mire. "We want somebody to make a decision - it's unfair on the players and the staff," said the midfielder. "To be fair, the players have been fantastic and have done what needed to be done. We will continue to keep our heads down. "But in the next week, we certainly want to know what is going to happen. "We would prefer to know whether Mike Ashley is going to keep it next season or whether somebody is coming in. "Then we can start getting ready for the Championship." England U21 defender Taylor added: "We want a manager and a bit of stability - we need that. "We have got an owner who wants to sell, but as players, we don't know what's going on. "We want something sorted quickly, but we will have to wait and see what happens." Dropping into the second tier has already signalled a mass exodus of top talent from St James' Park, but Taylor insists he will not be joining those heading for the exits. He said: "I have got two years left on my contract. It's as simple as that. "I was devastated when we went down - it was the worst day of my career. "There's no worse feeling than getting relegated, and we all want to put that right."
