Magpies blitz sorry Sunderland

Kevin Nolan`s hat-trick gave Newcastle bragging rights over 10-man Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby after a 5-1 demolition. The hosts went ahead in the 26th minute when a loose ball fell to Nolan who expertly hooked home from six yards. Newcastle were in dreamland seven minutes later when Nolan grabbed his second, coolly slotting home at the far post from Carroll`s centre. And they put themselves firmly in the ascendancy in first-half stoppage time when Ameobi tucked home a superb penalty after Nedum Onuoha had clumsily brought down Jonas Gutierrez. Sunderland`s Halloween nightmare got worse seven minutes after the restart when Bramble was handed a straight red card by Phil Dowd for a foul on Carroll. It was four after 70 minutes when Carroll`s header crashed into the bar and Ameobi lashed the rebound home and Nolan completed his treble by nodding home from close range. Sunderland finally had something to cheer about when Bent hooked home in stoppage time.
