Magpies aim to hang on to Nolan

NEWCASTLE United are determined to prevent Kevin Nolan from rejoining Bolton Wanderers after Gary Megson announced his intention to take the midfielder on loan. Chris Hughton is desperate to prevent his squad from being weakened further after Wednesdays narrow Carling Cup victory over Huddersfield Town exposed the lack of depth in the squad. Shola Ameobis ankle injury could deny Newcastle their leading scorer and only recognised first team striker for the visit of Leicester City on Monday. Hughton is also braced for bids for Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Joey Barton. But Nolan will not be among those leaving Tyneside. A Newcastle spokesman claimed: We have had no offers for Kevin Nolan and even if we had, he is going nowhere. However, Megson confirmed Botlon have made an enquiry. The midfielder joined Newcastle in £4m move last January but Megson has put Nolan, who has netted twice in his last two games, at the top of his wish list. I didnt particularly want him to go in the first place, Megson said. Well see, because we were told that Newcastle needed to move one or two players out due to the fact they had been relegated. With no funds available to sign players, Hughton is scouring the loan market to bolster his squad. Tottenham Hotspur pair Gareth Bale and Danny Rose, plus Manchester Citys attacking midfielder Vladimir Weiss, are on his wanted list. Newcastle have been alerted to the availability of several Spurs fringe players following Harry Redknapps decision to withdraw his side from this seasons Barclays reserve league. Redknapp will allow players outside the Spurs first team to gain experience away from Whie Hart Lane but Newcastle face competition for Bale from several Premier League clubs and AC Milan. Rose, however, whos been included in Englands Under- 21 squad for the European Championship qualifiers in Macedonia and Greece, is a more realistic target. Amoebi remained optimistic about his chances of leading the line against the Foxes, despite having to wear a plastic support cast on his ankle after Wednesdays game. I just fell on it, landed on it funny and felt a little pop in there, so hopefully I havent done much damage, he said. But its calmed down a bit now so Im hoping its nothing serious. Its important for us to keep everyone fit and healthy. Loan signing Danny Simpson has declared he wants to secure a permanent move from Manchester United. Im loving it, he said. I know Ive only been here for a week or so but Im really happy. Moving here for good is something Id like to do. Ive come here on loan but I want to play week in, week out.
