Magpies ace wants to help former club
NEWCASTLE right-back Danny Simpson is eager to give his old club a helping hand when the Magpies visit Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday.[LNB] Simpson spent four years at Manchester United coming up through the ranks, before eventually leaving to sign for the Magpies on a permanent deal in January 2010.[LNB] Sir Alex Ferguson's side go into this weekend's clash with Blackburn knowing a point will be enough to seal their record-breaking 19th title.[LNB] If however, they fail to get a point, Newcastle's opponents Chelsea could keep the title race alive by beating Newcastle.[LNB] After learning his trade at the Red Devils, Simpson admits he is hoping to inflict some misery on Chelsea to help his old side win the title, as well as help his current side finish the season strong.[LNB] "I want Manchester United to win the league," Simpson said. "I want to beat Chelsea and everybody at the club wants to beat Chelsea, but on Sunday it will mean a little bit more (if Man United lose to Blackburn) because of the lads I know at Manchester United if we can get something there.[LNB] "We know it could be a massive game and, if it is, I'll probably get a phone call from Sir Alex. One or two players might give us a text as well."[LNB] In the league, Newcastle have not won at Chelsea since 1986, but they were winners at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season when they knocked the reigning Premier League Champions out of the Carling Cup in a 4-3 thriller.[LNB] Then Magpies boss Chris Hughton gave some of his squad players the chance to impress that night, including Nile Ranger, Sol Campbell, Ryan Taylor and Shane Fergunson, a gamble which paid off.[LNB] The 24-year-old right-back admits having players who can come in and get a result like they did in the Carling Cup, gave the regular first-team players a boost.[LNB] Simpson also believes that win helped his side earn a hard-fought point against Carlo Ancelotti's men at St James' Park last November, and he hopes it can help again when they travel to London this Sunday.[LNB] He said: "Some of the lads that have not been regular players played against Chelsea in the Carling Cup this season.[LNB] "It was good for them that lads like Fergie, Sol and Nile came into the side and were able to beat Chelsea. I could tell from them that they got a lot of confidence from that game and they kicked on from there.[LNB] "Any team that goes to Chelsea and beats them 4-3, you're going to be absolutely buzzing and that helped us for the home game.[LNB] "It probably made the first team players think there's some good young players coming through.[LNB] "We knew we'd got some good young players if we needed them and it probably does give you that little boost, even for the players playing week in, week out, because you know if something does go wrong, you've got lads on the bench who can come in because they did it at Chelsea."[LNB]
