Madine - Beardsley Story Repeated?
The Sunday Sun says Toon reserve boss Peter Beardsley has been tracking Carlisle United's Gateshead-born striker Gary Madine ... and I'm sure Pedro sees a bit of himself in the kid. After all, Beardsley was on trial at Newcastle in the early part of his career then made a sudden switch to sign for Carlisle United after a Newcastle youth team match at Darlington. He signed the papers in the Darlington board room, leaving Newcastle boss at the time, Bill McGarry, dumbfounded. Beardsley has run the rule over Madine on three occasions this season – and was back at Brunton Park last weekend to see the Cumbrians’ goalless draw with Swindon Town. Like Pedro's situation, Newcastle tried to sign Madine before he penned professional terms with Carlisle.
