Lee - Newcastle Fans Deserve More Spect From Ashley

Former Magpies midfielder Rob Lee believes the appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football has left the club in dire straits and feels the club owe supporters answers.

The Newcastle United legend has labelled his former club a "laughing stock" following the decision to appoint Joe Kinnear as director of football.

The former Wimbledon boss gave a gaffe-ridden radio interview prior to being sworn in, consistently getting Magpies players' names wrong, with managing director Derek Llambias resigning shortly afterwards.

Earlier this week Alan Shearer said he was 'sickened' by the appointment of Kinnear, and now Lee, who made 303 league appearances for the Toon, has also slammed the decision to bring the 66-year-old back to St James' Park.

Rob Lee: “It’s official — Newcastle United are once again a laughing stock.

“Here we are in the weird and not-so-wonderful world of Joe Kinnear again.

“Newcastle always seem to shoot themselves in the foot. It is one step forward, two steps back. To bring Joe Kinnear in above Alan Pardew’s head is just a crazy decision.

“Nobody would have done what Newcastle have done in the last week or so.”

“Unfortunately we’re no nearer it being explained either, and I certainly don’t expect Ashley to come out and tell us any time soon — he never does.

“It’s sad really, because it was at a time when he seemed to be winning the fans over.

“There is this deafening silence from St James’ Park. All fans want to know is what is going on. It is just madness.”
