He wants Mike Ashley to kick-start Newcastle United’s recruitment drive this week by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Aubameyang is highly rated and French sources say he would welcome the opportunity to talk to the club.
But St Etienne want around £17million and Ashley is not prepared to go that high.
However if Yohan Cabaye goes to Paris-Saint Germain or Monaco, who are both interested, the money would be freed for signings.
A host of other players have been linked with moves away from St James’ Park – with Cheick Tioté, Sylvain Marveaux and Hatem Ben Arfa all willing to move on.
But is it a situation of "selling before we buy?"
In other words, is there any money in the coffers to spend?
