Kinnear Goes Above Pardew To 'Shift' Perch!

James Perch is set to complete a cut-price move to Wigan Athletic after Joe Kinnear deemed him surplus to requirements at St James' Park.

Perch's departure is something of a surprise given the regularity with which he appeared in the first team last season.

Alan Pardew seemed to like him ... obviously Kinnear doesn't!

The 27-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions last term, and Pardew always had kind words to say about his "utility man".

Kinnear has opted to move him on now rather than retain his services for another 12 months, then he can leave on a Bosman.

But, for the £700,000 asking price (peanuts in today's game), wouldn't United be wise to hang onto a player who can fit in just about anywhere in the back-line?

OK, he has NEVER been a player of any quality, but he is more committed than many I can name in the team.

He is genuine when he says he is "desperate to play for Newcastle", unlike some of the French mob who are already trying to "fix" an exit back home.

Nottingham Forest and Leicester have inquired about the possibility of signing Perch on loan, but Wigan are confident of completing a deal as they look to remodel their squad following last season's relegation.

A deal worth around £700,000 is expected to be agreed later this week, with Perch set to be available for the start of Wigan's pre-season programme.
