Keegan's payout battle is keeping Ashley at Newcastle United even longer

Kevin Keegan could be indirectly responsible for extending Mike Ashley's stay asowner of Newcastle United even though the former manager's unfair dismissal claim has highlighted the differences between the pair.[LNB]Ashley is anxious to sell the club to Tyneside businessman Barry Moat. But the takeover hinges on Barclays Bank raising the club's overdraft limit to something like the level it enjoyed when they were in the Premier League.[LNB]Barclays, the Premier League's sponsors, reduced the limit to around £29million when Newcastle were relegated last season, making it difficult for Moat and his associates to raise the funds to accommodate Ashley.[LNB] I'm happy to take cash if you like: But Kevin Keegan won't get the £10m he wants from Mike Ashley[LNB]The bank are now thought to be awaiting the outcome of the Keegan settlement, due to be announced within a fortnight, before deciding whether to readjust the overdraft limit enough to provide Ashley with the financial leeway he requires.[LNB]Indications are that Keegan will win substantial damages but probably some way short of the £10m he is demanding.
