Keegan's no shoo-in for Saints job as club told 10-point penalty will stand

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has revealed Kevin Keegan is not the only man he has talked to about the managerial vacancy should he complete his takeover of the Coca-Cola League One club. The Football League today stood firm in their ruling that Southampton's new owners will not be allowed to appeal against their 10-point deduction for next season. Le Tissier remains hopeful his Pinnacle Consortium can overcome their recent frustrations to complete their takeover - with a second consortium insisting it has the cash in place to buy Saints should the former England international's bid dramatically fail. Keegan has been heavily linked with a return to Southampton but LeTissier told Sky Sports News: 'Kevin is not the only one I have satdown and talked to. I have sat down and talked to a lot of my contactsin the game. 'We need to clarify the manager's position and we will look at that, I have spoken to a lot of people and taken a lot of advice and when the takeover is complete we will sit down and talk about it. 'For me this is a new job and I need to gather as much information as I can and there are several other people I have spoken to and no decision on a new manager has been made. 'Unfortunately Kevin was pictured and the papers got hold of it and everyone put two and two together.' Le Tissier also remains 'determined' to go through with the deal despite a late snag, with the Football League set for an emergency meeting today to discuss Pinnacle's bid. Some of the finer details of the deal have not been ironed out with the Football League, who deducted Saints 10 points after their parent company Southampton Leisure Holdings plc went into administration in April. Le Tissier added: 'Issues have cropped up, we are a still very much in the running and determined and we think it is in the best interests of the club.' The league's board held an emergency meeting today and were unanimous in their decision to enforce the ruling.Afterwards, the league released a statement saying: "The board of the Football League met today to consider representations from the 'Pinnacle Group' with regard to their proposed takeover of Southampton Football Club. "The Football League has the responsibility to ensure all League clubs start the season with certainty as regards the competition they compete in. "With that in mind, the Football League has responded directly to the Pinnacle Group, and will continue to liaise with their representatives going forward."
