Alan Shearer will captain Kevin Keegan's star-studded Entertainers side in a re-run of the Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3 fixture back in 1996. The re-match will be staged at Darlington Arena, on Sunday, October 9. Alan Shearer: “It will be a great feeling to pull on the No.9 shirt and play alongside my old striking partner Les Ferdinand. “I’m also looking forward to teaming up with the likes of Rob Lee, John Beresford and playing against the Liverpool lads. "I’m sure the fans will turn out in force for this one off game and help raise funds for charity.” Keegan’s Entertainers from 1992 to 1997 were famed for their thrilling, attacking football, which saw them climb from Premier League newcomers to consecutive second place finishers in 1996 and 1997. Entertainers already signed up include legendary goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek, John Beresford, Robert Lee, Paul Bracewell, Lee Clark and Liam O’Brien. Liverpool stars confirmed for the rematch on Sunday, October 9, include veteran striker Ian Rush, winger Jason McAteer and centre-back Mark Wright. Funds from the gate receipts and a black-tie reunion dinner, set to be held the night before the game, will go to a series of charities, including the NSPCC, the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), the Alan Shearer Centre, Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and NE Children’s Charity Pathways. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children, available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk Tickets are also on sale for a black-tie dinner at Newcastle Civic Centre, on October 8, priced £85 for VIP and £65 for standard.
