Jury Still Out On Marveaux?

Alan Pardew handed a rare start to Sylvain Marveaux in Brugges, who has struggled for form this season.

Marveaux started like a lost sheep in the early period of the game, but got stronger as the game went on in a three-man midfield in front of defensive duo Cheik Tiote and Gael Bigirimana.

Alan Pardew: “Sylvain, who had a difficult game at Everton, came back and looked bright, looked sharp.

“When we’ve got no (Yohan) Cabaye, we need Sylvain, because he gives us an intelligent pass, and I thought he did that.

“There were a lot of good things that came out of the game.”
