John Carver claims to be best coach in Premier League, nobody agrees

Jose Mourinho has won nine league titles in four countries and a couple of Champions Leagues, Louis van Gaal has a history of success stretching back more than two decades and Arsene Wenger has single-handedly remoulded Arsenal in his own image to play the best football in the country.

But as far as John Carver – whose Newcastle side have lost their last eight games – is concerned, none of them are a patch on John Carver.

Carver was today holding his press conference ahead of Saturday’s game against West Brom – and he had a particularly striking statement to make.

Carver has led his Newcastle side to a total of nine points from a possible 48 – and none from the last 24 available.

How does that compare with some of the other managers in the Premier League?

Carver also pulled out that other thing so beloved of an under-fire manager – a prop.

The Magpies boss had with him a handwritten copy of the letter Fabricio Coloccini wrote to fans this week.

But what was really on the paper?

But maybe Carver’s not aiming big enough. Why just limit himself to the best coach? Surely he could aim higher than that…
