Aston Villa have confirmed via their official website that the Tottenham player will be sidelined for six months.
Jenas suffered the setback during Saturday's home game against Manchester United when he pulled up sharply.
It is a considerable blow for Jenas who had harboured hopes of regaining his England spot if he rebuilt his career on loan at Villa.
