It's eight games only, insists Shearer

Alan Shearer hopes Newcastle beg him to stay beyond the end of the season - but only because that would mean he had saved them from relegation.Magpies legend Shearer answered the club's SOS this week and will attempt to steer them away from the Premier League relegation zone over the remaining eight games of the season. The former England captain has firmly stated his plan is to return to his television punditry role next season rather than make his stint as Newcastle boss more permanent.Asked whether he would have stepped in to help any other club, Shearer told Football Focus: "Probably not, no, I wouldn't. I had a fantastic life and really enjoyed what I was doing. I'm looking forward to doing it again next season, I think it's a great opportunity."My aim is for this football club to say to me 'we want you to stay on' because if they do, then it means they are in the Premier League - and that is my aim."I know what I am doing next season - I am here for eight games and I'm here for eight games only."Shearer has been critical of the running of the club this season and admitted: "I had concerns, I had questions that needed to be asked. I got the answers, truthful and honest answers."Mistakes have been made at this football club, everybody knows that. The owner and chairman have come out and publicly said that themselves. You can't change that but what you can do is learn from it."What I heard when I spoke to them over the last two, three, four days was what I thought were the right things."For whatever reason they brought me in, whether it was the last-ditch effort, whether I was the only man, it doesn't matter. I'm here."[LNB]
