‘It just wasn’t our day’

NEWCASTLE defender Mike Williamson revealed there was a team inquest after United's surprise defeat to Premier League new boys Blackpool.[LNB] The 26-year-old centre back, who saw a first-half header bounce agonisingly back off the post, made it known the players held a post-match meeting to discuss reasons behind losing a match they believed they should have won.[LNB] Williamson said: If you compare the chances we've had compared to theirs, it just wasn't our day.[LNB] From the first few minutes when we hit the post, their keeper was man of the match.[LNB] He had an absolute worldy. Things were just hitting him and going out of play.[LNB] Overall, we know it's a missed opportunity, but we're not going to lose any sleep over it. On another day we would have won by three or four.[LNB] This is what makes football such a fantastic game.[LNB] There's no such thing as a given when you just turn up and win.[LNB] If we play like that and get those sort of chances, we're going to win far more than you lose.[LNB] Williamson acknowledged that while the defeat was disappointing it represented nothing more than a setback and says the team are well equipped to bounce back next week at Everton.[LNB] He said: When we had adversity last season, we bounced back straight away and that's what the manager has just said in the dressing room.[LNB] It's not about the defeat, it's how we react to it. It's down to the players to kick on from this. We have to come out next weekend and show it hasn't affected us.[LNB] The popular defender also hailed the impact made by new boy Hatem Ben Arfa.[LNB] Hatem is a hell of a player,[LNB] said the former Portsmouth and Watford defender.[LNB] He has great feet, a great strike and great vision. He is going to make a big impact on the team and the things you saw on the pitch, he's been doing all week.[LNB] When you looked at the bench today you could see we've got a great squad now and I think that's going to carry us through.[LNB] It's not always about the starting XI. It's about the squad throughout the season.[LNB] It's a long season and everyone is going to play their part.[LNB] I've got confidence in the players we've got here and their ability. We are going to be fine.[LNB]
