Is Pardew Suggesting Most Of £35m Is GONE?

05 July 2011 16:34
I don't know about you ... but there was nothing in Alan Pardew's interview last night that filled me with confidence that the £35m Andy Carroll money is still to be spent. The only cash purchase thus far is Yohan Cabaye – and they got that money back when Pardew sold Kevin Nolan to West Ham. Apparently the free transfer deals for Ba and Marveaux were not ACTUALLY free. As soon as the transfer window opened Mike Ashley and Alan Pardew assured fans that the £35m recouped from the sale of Andy Carroll would be channelled into the playing side of Newcastle United. Fans have posed the question of where the money will be spent throughout the summer so far, with an additional £4m understood to have been picked up for departed skipper Kevin Nolan. Alan Pardew: “When you sign somebody like Demba Ba or Sylvain Marveaux there are huge transfer fees involved in that. “This is, unfortunately, how the Premier League works and a lot of money from those deals does not come back through the system. “Ideally, in the old days we’d sign somebody from the Championship and the money goes back into the English game. “A lot of money goes out through agents and stuff like that. “We have spent a fair amount on these three players in particular – more than the fans realise. “I need to mark their card on that. “If you are going to start adding up the money you will be way off the figures. “Mike promised to put that back in the club. “I know what the figure is and what has been spent on the training ground and everything will go back in the club. “We are trying to locate one or two development players that cost more than you think. “I want to say that because Mike and Derek’s backing has been very strong so far and I am pleased with it. “The progress we are making is very good and it bodes well. “I said when I came here that we need a strategic plan so that we can compete with the top teams. “As it stands financially at the moment we can’t compete with those top teams in terms of trading players. “We can compete on the pitch though. “We need players who want to play for Newcastle and that’s why we have targeted the players we have.”   Offer To NU-Mad Fans Continues Due to the amazing response from NU-Mad readers ... we have decided to continue our offer for you to buy "Magpies In Europe" for the amazing price of £5.99.   A 'THANK YOU' TO FOOTYMAD READERS ...
