Is it curtains for Owen? A year in the cold and no sign of Fabio recalling him

Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch and Carlton Cole were spinning off defenders yesterday, deliberately given half a yard before firing the ball beyond David James as part of a training ground exercise. How Michael Owen would love to be a part of that again, a calendar year since he last pulled on an England shirt, 365 days since an uneventful appearance as a second-half substitute during a 1-0 defeat in a friendly against France. He has not been close to a recall since he pulled out of England's friendly against the US at Wembley last May and the long haul to Trinidad & Tobago in June with mumps. Fabio Capello will still not select him.
