Is Andy Carroll REALLY Worth **** All?

It's a tough week for former Toon hero Andy Carroll. Not only are Liverpool fans wondering why Kenny Dalglish paid £35m for him, but ...

... Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias is alleged to have said he is worth "f*** all!".

Yesterday's Sunday Mirror featured a number of colourful comments that Llambias is reported to delivered to fans in a Newcastle bar.

The Magpies chief, who came in for sustained criticism last week after announcing plans to rename St James' Park as the Sports Direct Arena, claimed Keegan was only appointed because Newcastle's owner, Mike Ashley, was attempting to sell the club to a group of Middle-Eastern investors.

Derek Llambias: "Kevin Keegan can't take pressure.

"His ******* head is all over the place. Mike was selling to the Arabs and they wanted Kevin Keegan. The Arabs wanted him, the fans wanted him - perfect."

Toon legend Alan Shearer took stick too ... "Shearer was my choice and I have to hold my hands up - the wrong choice," Llambias is reported to have added.

"Shearer, for this, destroys us. He gave all the responsibility to (Iain) Dowie. Rubbish! Shearer? It would never be the right time. There would never be a right time in football.

"Shearer has arrogance, you guys (pointing to onlookers) have given him that arrogance.

"Chris Hughton would never have taken us where we want to be. That’s my decision by the way.

“Chris can’t make decisions. If I am asking about a player, Ben Arfa? he says ‘I’m not sure, blah blah’.”

“With Chris, he couldn’t cope with where we are mentally. We are aggressive. You need to be aggressive. I don’t want a manager below me who can’t argue. You guys don’t understand how f****** horrible we can be.

“I have to admit that £30m for Andy Carroll is a lot of money.

“Is he worth £30m? No — he’s worth f*** all.

“We had the control. We knew the Torres deal was there. We drew that f****** deal, perhaps the ultimate.

“So £30m? F*** off! Don’t waste my time and I slammed the phone down. £35m? Everybody including Pardew all agreed.”

“But the £35m they wanted to pay over four years. It was rubbish. Mike (Ashley) said — and he is a brave boy Mike I promise you — get all the £35m up front.”

“We got it all up front and then they never paid us on time and we charged them 12 grand f****** interest.”

Former Liverpool right-back Steve Nicol says Carroll is missing the target at Anfield.

Nicol acknowledged that Andy Carroll has flattered to deceive in front of goal, but he believes the profligacy of Liverpool's midfielders is a bigger problem, saying Carroll is a lone soldier in the box.

Chris Nicol: "For me, the biggest problem is the midfield. Between Downing, Henderson, Adam and Lucas, you've got 3 goals in all competitions this season, and that's just not good enough.

"Goals win games and they're not scoring enough goals. Goalkeepers are coming to Anfield and walking home with bottles of champagne for man of the match, but that's not any good to Liverpool.

"They need to get themselves into the penalty box more. The Swansea game was a great example: lots of balls into the box, but there was only Carroll there. Somebody has to get into the box, and unless they do that, there's not going to be enough goals from the midfield."
