Ipswich v Newcastle preview

25 September 2009 10:54
On-loan striker Marlon Harewood could make his debut for Newcastle when they travel to lowly Ipswich. Second top take on second bottom in the Championship with the Magpies expected to heap more woe on Roy Keane at Portman Road, and Chris Hughton may decide to give new striker Harewood the chance to prove himself. Danny Simpson is a doubt though, after jarring his ankle in Newcastle's 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle last weekend, while Tamas Kadar misses out with a groin strain. Danny Guthrie serves a one-match suspension after his red card at Peterborough and Joey Barton is also sidelined with a minor foot problem. Andy Carroll, Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique are all expected to return after being rested for the Carling Cup defeat at the hands of the Posh in midweek, although Shola Ameobi (foot) and Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring) remain absent. Ipswich will be hoping a bumper home crowd can inspire them to their first league win of the season after a dismal start to the campaign. The game will see two of Sir Bobby Robson's former clubs go head-to-head and after his memorial during the week, the Tractor Boys will name one of their stands after their old manager. Town will be looking to shore up their defence after twice conceding a lead in last weekend's 3-3 draw with Doncaster. Defender Gareth McAuley could return after suspension, but Ben Thatcher is likely to miss out after falling out of favour. Keane will also be without long-term absentees Luciano Civelli and David Norris who are both sidelined with knee injuries.
