International Break Eases Pardew Problems

Alan Pardew has had two weeks to get his injured brigade back to fitness, and the Ameobi brothers look to be ready for selection if required.

Shola Ameobi missed the trip to Molineux with an injured shoulder and there were fears of a longer absence, but after a week of intensive treatment he is set to get the all-clear to resume full-training when the squad regroup on Monday.

Although brother Sammy is struggling with a hamstring injury picked up in the mid-week reserve defeat of Bolton, it may not be as bad as first feared.

Mike Williamson (pictured right) is another looking for a recall.

Although Yohan Cabaye was taken off early during France’s victory over Albania, he insists he is ready for international duty on Tuesday.

If that proves not to be serious, the United boss could be picking from virtually a full squad – with the same side that beat Wolves before the break looking likely to retain their places for the Spurs game.

Assistant boss John Carver: “It’s quite a clean bill of health and you’re now at the stage where it’s just fingers crossed with the international games. Hopefully they come through those games.

“Shola’s had a good week with the fitness guys. We could have thrown him back into training but we thought it’d be better to give him a good base.

“He’s had a solid week. He’ll be back with the group on Monday for the build up to Spurs.

“Mike Williamson is coming along quite nicely. He seems happy with himself, he’s doing a lot of hard work.”
