Hughton Won't Be Naming Scott As Coach

Newcastle have made finding a new reserve team coach one of the priorities for the coming few days ... but don't expect it to be Martin Scott. With less than a month until the United players return to their Benton base on July 5, Newcastle's threadbare backroom team consists only of just Colin Calderwood and goalkeeper coach Paul Barron following the departure of Geordie Alan Thompson. Last season United lost former Academy director/reserve team boss Richard Money to Conference side Luton Town and Kenny Wharton also left leaving another notable gap in the coaching set-up at Newcastle. Chris Hughton: “I can categorically say that the position will be filled as soon as possible. “It will be filled by one person, but as yet there hasn’t been a firm decision on who that will be. “Like any club, we will continue to assess the options. “It’s an important position and one that we know needs addressing. “I know Martin Scott is in the frame. “But as I say there have been no decisions yet – perhaps the reason his name has came up is because he’s available. “We’ll have options, including promoting from within. “Everybody knows that John Carver has a good association with the club. “He’s from the area, and it is not a surprise that he’s been mentioned. “He would be the same as anybody else, though – we will have options when it comes to filling the position.”
