Hughton urges Toon focus

Chris Hughton has told Newcastle's players not to become distracted by any off-field issues. Hughton will guide the squad through the opening days of their vital pre-season programme with the assistance of Colin Calderwood and Paul Barron. Alan Shearer took charge of the Magpies for the final eight games of the 2008/9 campaign but it is unclear whether he will remain at the helm. The ownership of the club is also uncertain but Hughton is adamant that his players will be fully focused over the next few weeks ahead of the new Championship season. "Everything will be done properly with the group of players that is there," he said. "Everything going on outside of that has to stay outside of it. "Whatever the situation will be, when it comes to the first day of pre-season training, the players will go through a good and correct programme for however long it is until someone takes over. "The most important thing is that the players get a pre-season under their belts. Everything has to be done properly by the staff and players."
