Caretaker Newcastle boss Chris Hughton saluted young striker Andy Carroll after seeing him finally kill off bottom-of-the-table Plymouth. The 20-year-old frontman smashed home his second goal in four days to cement a hard-fought victory and enhance his blossoming reputation as the Magpies climbed back into second place in the Coca-Cola Championship. "He has done ever so well, big Andy Carroll. He was out for a period of time and had only had two days' training with the team before the Blackpool game," said Hughton. "He got stronger and better as the game went on and as well as scoring a goal, he could have perhaps added another one to it."
