Leicester forward Steve Howard is winning his fitness battle to face hometown club Newcastle on Monday. The 33-year-old limped off with a hamstring injury at Sheffield United last week and it was feared he would be out for several weeks. But Durham-born Howard, a season ticket holder at Newcastle until his football career took off at Tow Law Town and then Hartlepool, told the Leicester Mercury: "I am hoping I will be back and involved in some way on Monday. "I tweaked my hamstring at Sheffield United but the physio team have worked incredibly hard on it, and it is coming on really well. "I am back training and I had a really tough session yesterday morning. I was running at full pelt. I was shattered afterwards. "I am happy with how my recovery is going and I am hoping I will be involved."
