Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge fell hook, line and sinker for an April Fools' Day joke on Friday. Currently on loan at QPR, the player read a story in The Independent. claiming Cristiano Ronaldo was set for a big-money transfer from Portugal to Spain. The Independent had run a spoof story claiming that the Real Madrid star had been sold by his country to help pay off the national debt, and Routledge asked how he went about doing it. Having being alerted to his gullibility, Routledge tweeted: “Ok ok… april fools gotme.”
