"Shrewsbury-born midfielder Danny Guthrie could be on the verge of quitting Newcastle United for Premier League rival West Brom.
"The Baggies were set for more discussions with favourite Ralf Rangnick today as they look to appoint Roy Hodgson’s successor in the next few days.
"But sporting and technical manager Dan Ashworth is already lining up potential summer signings to be considered by the new head coach and has lined up a possible swoop for free agent Guthrie.
"Ashworth is a long-standing admirer of the 25-year-old, who is expected to seek a new club when his Magpies contract ends this summer."
He was linked with a move to Aston Villa before Alex McLeish’s sacking and is interested in moving to the Midlands to be closer to his family.
