Have We Got The New Supermac-Tudor Combination?

18 March 2010 11:43
Andy Carroll and Peter Lovenkrands teamed up once again to fire Newcastle 12 points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest in the race to the Barclays Premier League. And with 28 goals between them this season, are we seeing a partnership similar to the 1970s combination of John Tudor and Malcolm Macdonald? Although Supermac was thought of as gigantic, he was a dwarf compared to Carroll, standing at only 5ft 10". But they both have an eye for goal, although somewhat different in style. Carroll created a hat-full of chances for his team-mates against Barnsley; while Supermac would have had his head down and thought only of himself. For those who don't know the story, Supermac scored FIVE goals for England against Cyprus at Wembley and Kevin Keegan said to him: "OK, let someone else have a chance" ... to which Supermac replied: "F*** off, go get your own!" Carroll has now scored 10 goals in his last 11 appearances for the club. As for Peter Lovenkrands, he has had major personal troubles this season, and it is amazing he played as well as he has in recent weeks. He is similar to John Tudor in that he is very much a team player and plays off the central striker. Are are new partnership good enough to shine in the Premiership? Why not?
