Hatem Ben Arfa could still come back from his broken leg in time to secure a permanent move to Newcastle, according to his Marseille coach Didier Deschamps.

Ben Arfa suffered the injury in a tackle with Manchester City's Nigel De Jong on Sunday, but Newcastle boss Chris Hughton revealed that the Frenchman is hopeful of playing again this season.

He is unlikely to make the number of appearances stipulated in his season-long loan from Marseille to trigger a long-term deal, but Deschamps said: 'We'll have to wait until the end of the season to see what happens.

'There is an option for Newcastle to purchase him, bound to a number of matches. He won't play them, obviously, but we'll have to see what Newcastle do.

'There would be no problem for me in him returning to Marseille, but I don't think it's too much in his own plans.'
