If Newcastle really value Sebastien Bassong at £15 million it is no surprise they are in meltdown.
The price tag they have put on the defender is the most ridiculouspiece of wishful thinking since Mike Ashley thought Dennis Wise wouldsucceed as an executive at St James' Park.
Bassong is 22 years old, cost just £500,000 a year ago and his onlyexperience of the Premier League was as part of a back line whichconceded 59 goals last season.
With interest from Arsenal, at least he is French. But Newcastle are inno position to call the shots in the transfer market and even if theydon't really want to sell, a bid of £5m would probably change theirminds.
