Shock, horror. Desperate Newcastle failed in their appeal against Sebastien Bassong's red card.
If ever there was a case for having the suspension increased as theresult of a frivolous appeal this was it. The defender tried to pulldown Fulham's Diomansy Kamara as he ran through and then, when thatdidn't work, tripped him up.
Newcastle tried to claim he had not denied the striker a clear goalscoring opportunity but seemed to be thinking that with one game remaining and relegation staring them in the face they had nothing tolose. Embarrassing.
