HATCHET MAN: Loony Toon boss Joe Kinnear's fine is almost sweet FA

Ref rant: Kinnear has been known to let rip Joe Kinnear may have demonstrated his, let's say, less responsible side when he claimed Martin Atkinson was a 'Mickey Mouse'  referee last November, but if he used the same description of the FA today he would be spot on. The governing body fined the Newcastle manager just£500 and warned him about his future conduct for the outburst which has set the tone for touchline behaviour - and for that it is hard to take them seriously. When the FA launched their Respect campaign at the beginning of the season they promised to enforce the laws of the game in such a way that no-one in high-profile positions within the sport would be in any doubt about how it was going to be policed. Disciplinary staff were going to provide the support which sent out the message that referees and officials are the bosses and should not be messed with. The conduct of managers was going to be specifically targeted. So where does a£500 fine fit in? Even though Kinnear had been out of the game for a while before going to St James' Park that level of penalty will have no impact whatsoever. It wouldn't even be enough to deprive him of the price of a trip to the original Disneyland.  Ashley makes shock return to Newcastle and is set to give green light for Shay Given's move to Manchester CityNEWCASTLE UNITED FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET
