Has Penny Finally Dropped With Shola?

Alan Pardew says Shola Ameobi is "finally getting the respect he deserves". But has he deserved that respect?

Ameobi scored a stunning goal in Monday night’s 2-2 draw against Italy at Craven Cottage, and his call-up came after starts in United’s victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

But life has not always been so perfect for the 32-year old, and he knows as well as the fans, that more than one Newcastle manager has tried to sell him on in the past.

Is he playing better now than he did ten years ago? I'd have to say yes!

Alan Pardew: "The only issue has been his consistency.

“I’ve always said the same thing about Shola.

“This is a guy, at the top of his game, is sometimes unplayable.

“Age will hopefully bring consistency. He’ll be the first to admit his consistency’s let him down.

“If you don’t play well for two or three games, you’re going to come out of the team.

“He’s let managers have that opportunity, not just me. So he needs to really reinforce why he must start.”
