Steve Harper believes the spirit which exists within the Newcastle squad will see them to safety this season.[LNB] The Magpies took another step towards achieving that goal on Sunday when they ground out a 0-0 draw with Everton at St James' Park.[LNB]The Toffees arrived on Tyneside in fine form, with European qualification occupying their thoughts heading into the end of season run-in.[LNB]However, their weekend endeavours would be to no avail as they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.[LNB]While David Moyes' men will have been left disappointed at the outcome, especially as Newcastle had Kevin Nolan sent off after 43 minutes, Harper believes the hosts can take plenty of positives from the stalemate.[LNB]He said: "People looking from the outside when we went down to 10 men would have thought Newcastle might crumble a while ago.[LNB]"But the spirit is strong in the dressing room. We have signed a couple of strong characters in Kevin Nolan and Ryan Taylor, and Peter Lovenkrands has come in as well, and it's a happy dressing room at the minute."[LNB]ConfidenceWhile many of those inside St James' Park were happy to settle for a point on Sunday, Magpies defender Sebastien Bassong believes victory was there for the taking.[LNB]"I think we could have won it as well," said the Frenchman.[LNB]"One point is okay, but it could have been three.[LNB]"We are happy with the result and we have confidence that we can go to Bolton next week and get something."[LNB]
