Harewood completes loan move

Newcastle have completed the signing of Marlon Harewood on a three-month loan deal from Aston Villa. The striker sealed his switch on Friday and will go straight into the squad to face Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday. The 30-year-old will wear the number 10 shirt for the Magpies and will boost a strike force that has looked thin on the ground at times this term. The former Nottingham Forest frontman made just nine starts in his two years with Villa but Newcastle caretaker manager Chris Hughton believes Harewood can rediscover his scoring touch at St James' Park. "We're delighted to get Marlon on board," he told the club's official website. "He's different to what we have got here in terms of attacking options. He's very experienced, he's a big strong player and, as his record shows, has an eye for goal. "It's a great challenge for him. He's played for some very good clubs but it hasn't really worked out for him at Aston Villa." Harewood expressed his delight at being handed the chance to prove himself at St James' Park. "I can't wait to get my career back on track," he told the Newcastle Chronicle. "I'm fit and raring to go and really believe I am at one of the biggest clubs there is. This is a great challenge for me and now I just want to play my part. "I just can't wait for my debut. Whether it comes at Ipswich or in front of what I hope will be a packed house at St James's Park. "That is one of the greatest things about signing here. The potential to play in front of 52,000 fans is a very special one."
