Hammers After Toon Ex-Striker

West Ham could be set to offer a January loan move to former Newcastle striker ...

... Obafemi Martins, according to The Telegraph.

Martins joined the Magpies in 2006, and scored 28 goals in 88 games.

He left the club when we were relegated, but he claims Newcastle United wanted "the big earners off the books and I was one of them".

The rumours suggested the opposite ... he wouldn't play in the Championship.

He has since moved a few times, including a very brief and relatively unremarkable loan spell at Birmingham in 2011, but is currently enjoying life in the MLS with Seattle Sounders.

A loan move during the American off-season has considerable precedent, with LA Galaxy heroes David Beckham and Landon Donovan both spending time on loan in Europe, as has former Robbie Keane – also currently with LA Galaxy, but who also spent time on loan at West Ham in 2011 while still with Spurs.
