Gutiérrez On Course For Africa

Jonas Gutiérrez looks set for the biggest stage of them all next month ... a first team player in Diego Maradona's World Cup plans. The Toon winger played the full 90 minutes in Argentina's preparations 5-0 win over Canada last night. It was his 16th cap, as Argentina played their final friendly in South America before the start of their World Cup in South Africa on June 12. Lionel Messi was rested, but Maradona fielded his strongest line-up, with Gutiérrez part of a four-man midfield alongside Liverpool pair Javier Mascherano and Maxi Rodriguez and Palermo's Javier Pastore. Their World Cup opener is against Nigeria in Johannesburg.
