Gutierrez wants out

NEWCASTLE UNITEDS threadbare squad could be further depleted this week after Jonas Gutierrez outlined a desire to move to Greece. Despite playing the full 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, Gutierrez claims to have been heartened by interest from Olympiakos, where former Magpies player Temuri Ketsbaia is head coach. And with Champions League football on offer with the Greek champions, the South American has hinted that he would welcome such a move in World Cup year. Even if owner Mike Ashley decides, as expected, to take the club off the market within the next four days, Gutierrez is still one of those players Newcastle are keen to offload. Ashley has already sold Habib Beye, Sebastien Bassong and Obafemi Martins in the last fortnight, and Gutierrez seems certain to follow. I want to leave Newcastle and go to a club which will give me the chance to fight for a place in my national team, Gutierrez was quoted in Greeces Sportday. I believe if I play well in the Champions League then Maradona is going to take a look at me. He added: For me it is a big challenge to play in the Champions League. I have a lot of energy in me and I want a fantastic season to be with my national team in South Africa for the World Cup. Gutierrez was allegedly involved in an argument with Joey Barton last week Barton has since apologised to caretaker boss Chris Hughton.
