Gutierrez Takes A Hammering From Shearer

We have seen Newcastle Utd wingers struggle on the international stage when they have been put in the side at full-back. Nobby Solano cost Peru a goal and he took so much stick in the press he retired from international football (for a while). Kieron Dyer was tried there for England - for a while - but that didn't last very long either. Yesterday Newcastle's Jonas Gutierrez ended up on the winning side on his World Cup debut as Argentina edged out Nigeria 1-0 on Saturday ... but he struggled. Gutierrez surprisingly started at right-back in the Ellis Park encounter against the Super Eagles, questioning if Diego Maradona was back on the drugs. However, Alan Shearer pointed out the 26-year-old was "the weak link in the team and Nigeria should have targetted him more". Argentina's second game is against South Korea at Soccer City at lunchtime on Thursday, and it will be interesting to see where 'Spiderman' lines up.
