'Spiderman' has made just two senior appearances all season, with a start at Manchester City on the opening day being followed by a brief substitute outing at Cardiff City in early October.
Since then, the Argentinian has been back in his homeland on compassionate leave dealing with a personal issue.
He joins Fabricio Coloccini, who has spent more time in Argentina in the last 12 months than he has at Newcastle.
Both claim to have "personal problems" to solve back home, and Colo even slapped in a transfer request last season, something that still has not be resolved.
He returned to England at the start of this week.
Gutierrez is about to enter the final 18 months of his current deal, and as yet there have been no talks over an extension.
He claims he has kept fit, and may even be be considered for a place in the squad to face Norwich City.
