Gutierrez offers his support to boss
JONAS Gutierrez claims managerial stability has helped make Newcastle United a much better club than the one that was relegated from the Premier League two seasons ago.[LNB] The Magpies went through three permanent managers and two spells of caretaker control as they tumbled out of the top-flight in 2008-09, with Kevin Keegan, Chris Hughton, Joe Kinnear and Alan Shearer all presiding over a thoroughly chaotic campaign.[LNB] There has been no such instability this time around, with Hughton's position in the dug out assured following last season's promotion from the Championship.[LNB] And having endured a difficult first season on Tyneside as Newcastle's Premier League tenure came to an end, Gutierrez is delighted to be playing under a manager whose position and authority is not constantly being called into question.[LNB] The difficulty of the relegation season was we had a lot of managers and a lot of injured players, said the Argentinian winger. That is what made it really tough for all the team.[LNB] When you have a lot of players who are missing through injury it can become difficult really, really bad.[LNB] But now we have a chance to do things right.[LNB] Chris Hughton has been in charge for a long time now and we know what he wants.[LNB] That is good. We are always happy to see Chris staying here because he believes in us and we believe in him. For us, it is very important to have Chris as our manager.[LNB] Like his fellow Argentinian Fabricio Coloccini, Gutierrez has not been called up for international duty this week, but the midfielder feels his involvement in the summer's World Cup finals helped improve his performances as a player.[LNB] I think when you are playing with the national team or at a big level it helps you, he said. The Championship is a little bit different not easier, just different.[LNB] It's a different type of game, so to play for the national team was very important for me. I was a little bit disappointed with the World Cup because we wanted to achieve more. But that's football, that's the World Cup, it's very difficult.[LNB] Coloccini returned to training yesterday after injuring his groin in the 2-1 defeat at Manchester City, but with Sol Campbell having impressed as a first-half substitute at Eastlands, Hughton admits he faces a difficult decision ahead of Saturday's home game with Wigan.[LNB] Fabricio will be back in contention for Wigan providing there are no further problems,[LNB] said the Magpies manager.[LNB] That is a big positive for us.[LNB] But there is a decision for me to make there. Sol came in and did well and Mike (Williamson) has been excellent too.[LNB] Sol is just a good player, so it doesn't surprise me he's come in and looked good. Part of the reason why we brought him in was because of that quality and experience that he showed last weekend.[LNB] Meanwhile, Danny Guthrie and Danny Simpson are both expected to step up their return from injury in tomorrow afternoon's reserve game at Blackpool.[LNB]
