Guthrie In No Hurry - Neither Are Newcastle!

It seems a double-edged sword - Danny Guthrie says he is in no rush to sign a new contract - and Newcastle are in no hurry to give him one.

Guthrie's current deal expires at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has struggled to push his way into the first team this season, and when he has the midfielder has hardly set the world alight.

Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote are going to be a tough pair to break-up as both are in impressive form, and the former Liverpool player knows he is fighting for his Toon future.

Danny Guthrie: "I've got six months left at Christmas, so we'll assess it in January. I'm not worried about deals or things like that - there's no rush.

"I'm happy with how things are going, and I just want to get back in the team. It was frustrating last season because of all the injuries.

"It was an ankle injury, and I was out eight weeks or so. It was the same injury I had at the back end of last season. But hopefully, I've put them behind me. I've got to wait for the opportunity to get in the team and stake my claim."
