Gosling: 'We Could Have Come Away With Something'

Dan Gosling says his first goal in 21 months was little consolation for the midfielder after Newcastle United's unbeaten run came to an end.

A pass from fellow substitute James Perch took two deflections on its way to Gosling, who finished into an empty net.

Dan Gosling: “I got a bit of luck with the way it ricocheted off Joe Hart.

“Demba (Ba) got there first, and it came off the keeper and fell straight for me.

“It was good on a personal level to get my first goal, but the team’s more important, and unfortunately it was a bad afternoon.

“But it’s great to be involved again. I’ll keep working hard in training, and hopefully get more games.

“It was a while ago since I last scored – it was in my Everton days. Hopefully, there are many more to come for Newcastle.

“We’re obviously disappointed, because we feel we could have came away with something when you look at the chances we created and the ones we missed.

“There were opportunities to take the lead. If they go in, it changes the game completely.

“But we’ve had a great start, and we’re still up there.

“We’ll be happy if we go to Old Trafford and create these chances again.”
