Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling will take his first step on the road towards a first-team comeback with a friendly appearance on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old joined United from Everton in the summer, but has yet to play a minute for them owing to a cruciate ligament injury he picked up while he was with the Toffees. But he will line-up against Hibs at the club's training ground, hoping to put himself in manager Alan Pardew's thoughts.

He told his club's official website, www.nufc.co.uk: "I've been looking forward to a game for a few months now so I can't wait. Hopefully I'll get a good run out and we'll take it from there."

He added: "The snow has halted my progress lately, but I feel good now.

"Hopefully I can get a good run-out on Wednesday, push on from there and see what the gaffer's thoughts are."

Meanwhile, United defender Tamas Kadar has joined Huddersfield on a one-month emergency loan.
