Gosling At The Crossroads

24 July 2012 12:07
Dan Gosling joined Newcastle two years ago but his career at St James's Park has been uneventul to say the least.

Stuart Pearce once tipped him to be the next Newcastle Utd player to get a full England cap ... but the midfielder has made just one Premier League start for the club in his two seasons on Tyneside.

Gosling was recovering from surgery on his cruciate ligament when he joined Newcastle from Everton in 2010.

The 22-year-old made just one brief substitute’s appearance – his debut came against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light – the season before last before suffering an injury setback.

Alan Pardew: "His's performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in Austria was the best I think Dan has played for a long while.

“Forget about the game, he’s also been great in training and in and around the team.

“He’s going to be important to us next year, and with a bit of luck he’ll make a breakthrough like Ryan (Taylor) did. He was very good.”

Chris Hughton, signed him for United on a free transfer.
