Fulham reject Kamara approach

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed the club have turned down an approach from Newcastle United to sign Diomansy Kamara. Hodgson's Newcastle counterpart Chris Hughton revealed earlier in the week that he was keen to bring Kamara to St James' Park on loan. However, after the Senegal international scored Fulham's equaliser in the 1-1 draw away to CSKA Sofia on Thursday night, Hodgson stated he would not be leaving. With the Cottagers having only just started their Europa League group campaign, Hodgson admits he is in no position to lose any experienced members of his squad. "Just before the transfer window closed, Chris Hughton contacted me and asked if it was a possibility - and I said 'no'," said Hodgson. "Three or four days later, someone else at Newcastle asked our board if there was a chance they could take him on loan. "We said no - because we need him for the European games. "There's no truth in the stories that he's going to Newcastle." Hodgson also praised Kamara's effort against CSKA Sofia, saying: "Diomansy took the goal very well. We've see him do that so many times. "When he span away I was confident he would get behind the defence and compose himself. It still wasn't an easy finish - it was on his left foot as well. "It's once of those goals where you think 'open goal, he should score' - but I've seen many missed in my time."
