French Win A Good Thing For Pardew?

Four Newcastle United players have been called up by France for their two-legged World Cup qualifying play-off.

Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Debuchy, Moussa Sissoko and Loic Remy are in Didier Deschamps’ 23-man squad, and a French win could boost Newcastle's push for a European place!

There is no better feeling than success, and only Ukraine stand between Deschamps’ side and a place in next summer’s finals in Brazil.

France play the first leg in Kiev on November 15 before hosting the return match in Paris four days later.

We suggested yesterday a World Cup appearance would put our French stars in the shop window in Brazil ... but is that a bad thing?

I'm sure Mike Ashley would welcome the exposure and see his players double their transfer value.

But the buzz of the prospect of mixing with the world's best must be a benefit to the players and NUFC.

Newcastle’s contingent of French players will link up with their international colleagues after Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Didier Deschamps: “It should not be thought that we are qualified before we are.

“Ukraine is a team that has quality. This will not be simple. We must deal with it as best we can.”

Meanwhile, United striker Shola Ameobi has been called up by Nigeria for the second leg of their play-off against Ethiopia in Lagos in November 16 in Lagos.

The Super Eagles won the first game 2-1.

Newcastle’s Papiss Demba Cisse is in the Senegal squad for the second leg of their World Cup play-off against Ivory Coast in Casablanca.

But United midfielder Cheik Tiote has NOT been called up by Ivory Coast, who lead 3-1.

The two-legged play-offs are to be played on November 15 and 19 to decide the four remaining European teams to go to the World Cup in Brazil next summer.
